Calgary is the largest city in Alberta, Canada. It is approximately 80km east of the Rocky Mountains. Population of 1,042,892 as of 2008. In 1988 it was the first Canadian city to host the Olympic Winter Games. Home of the Calgary Flames NHL Hockey Team. The city proper covers a land area of 726.5 km2. Famous for its Chinooks, during such events Calgary is known to 'Go through all four seasons in one day'. Some of the more notable buildings in the down-town area are the Calgary Tower, and the Saddledome. Dave Bronconnier is the current mayor, belonging to the conservative party. The University of Calgary is Calgary's primary large degree-granting facility, and enrolled 28,807 students in 2006. Calgary is home to the Iron Samurai tourney, which has been tested by Royal Academy nerdfighters and found to contain large amounts of awesome.
