DAWN stands for the Directory of Awesome World Nerdfighters. It is a collection of online identities and other information about all Nerdfighters who want to have their information included. The purpose of the DAWN is to compile Nerdfighter information in one convenient location and to facilitate awesome communication.

The DAWN is organized by birthday (because they change less frequently than usernames) to avoid duplication, and also to facilitate birthday greetings. Because the database is so large, the actual information is split among several pages:

Other uses

The DAWN is also used to coordinate various projects to increase the Level of Awesome Worldwide (LAW). The first DAWN project was the 2009 Nerd Pride Day Project, in which 50 postcards forming a mosaic were sent to John Green, Hank Green, Helen Hunt ,and Oprah Winfrey. The 2009 Nerd Pride Day Project was followed immediately by the initiation of birthday shoutouts for all Nerdfighters on Twitter. Further projects are planned and will be announced as they occur.

The DAWN helps to facilitate the Daily Increase of Awesome Levels (DIAL) through reaching out with heartfelt messages of joy and appreciation. As it is a proven fact that (1) what you celebrate increases, and (2) all Nerdfighters are made of awesome, then it stands to reason that the world is a better place for every Nerdfighter who exists, and celebrating the successful completion of another orbit around the sun should be rejoiced. You are, therefore, invited to wish any and all Nerdfighters a happy birthday.

Receiving cards

Receiving an unexpected heartfelt card increases awesome levels incredibly. Not surprisingly, so does sending one. Any Nerdfighter on the DAWN (adult or with adult permission) who desires to do so may receive birthday or greeting cards by sending his or her mailing address to dawn.project(at)yahoo(dot)com. When you write, please specify whether you wish to receive cards only from DAWNers or if you will accept them from any listed Nerdfighters. If you choose the second option, your information will only be given on a case-by-case individual basis to allow Nerdfighters to send you greetings, like this card sent to @bisfitty. If you want to see how this works, let us help you send a card, (see below). The cards are green-friendly on recycled paper.

Obviously, if you're gonna get a card, we've got to know where to send it. Email your address to dawn(dot)project(at)yahoo(dot)com.

Sending cards

Any Nerdfighter who wants to send cards to anyone (whether your recipient is a Nerdfighter or not) can do so via the DAWN account at sendoutcards.com; contact @NerdFighters on twitter to learn how to do this. The sendoutcards.com website can create a font based on your own handwriting, put your photo or other picture onto the greeting card, and many other cool functions. One or two cards can be sent free of charge, but anyone who wants to send multiple cards should request further information from @NerdFighters. More information is also available by watching the "more than just a card" video on the above mentioned site.

Constantly updated

The DAWN is an ongoing project, so your patience is appreciated. Most importantly, we are currently and adding information about the very made-of-awesome NerdPriders so if you don't see your name here, it isn't because we've forgotten you're awesome! The problem is merely that we don't know your birthday; you can fix this by messaging @NerdFighters on Twitter or by emailing dawn.project (at) yahoo (dot) com.

How to get listed in the DAWN

Nerdfighters who want to be included in the DAWN can do so by:

  1. editing the list yourself
  2. direct messaging @NerdFighters on Twitter
  3. sending a message to DAWN Project at the Ning
  4. emailing dawn(dot)project(at)yahoo(dot)com

Nerdfighters who wish to be on the team to help compile the DAWN (DAWNers) can do so by:

  1. editing the list yourself (put "Yes" under "DAWNer?") (easiest way)
  2. direct messaging @NerdFighters on Twitter (second best option)
  3. emailing dawn.project (at) yahoo (dot) com (third best)
  4. sending a message to DAWN Project at the Ning

If you edit the DAWN yourself, please be sure to include your birthdate, name, location, Nerdfighter power, and any public links.

If you do not see yourself listed when your birthday is, check the last page for unknown birthdays.
