English
From Omnictionary
English was originally an adjective, borne by items which have the properties of a specific region of Great Britain. Because some of those items are people, (who are called the English), English describes their language and culture. Due to colonialism and cultural exchange, the language of these English moved on to persons who could not be described as English. This causes a great deal of confusion to a great many people, but simply can't be helped.
