Part 2 - Meeting Margo
Amanda Jenkins woke up that morning, completely exhausted after the last night. She was up all night, trying to find information about Mr. Lindsey that she could use against him.
But, as usual, she took a shower, ate breakfast and dressed. She lived in a quite expensive apartment, in the middle of downtown. She made a lot of money on her work, even though she hated it. She had time before work started, so she decided to walk, as a nice break from taking the bus.
On her usual way to work, she found Margo Roth Spiegelman, talking to a man she didn't recognize. She waited until the man started to walk away, then called, "Margo!"
Margo turned around immediately. "What are you doing here?!"
"I'm walking to work," Amanda said, grinning. "What's up? How've you been? I haven't seen you since camp! And who's that guy?"
The man suddenly turned around, looking directly to Margo. Amanda started. The man was what her friend Dylan liked to call "a sketchball".
"He's . . . he's a family friend." Margo said, looking nervous. "I-I have to go." With that, Margo turned and ran.
"Well, goodbye!" Amanda yelled after her, a little confused. Her eyes wandered towards the man whom Margo had been talking to. He was staring at her.
Amanda walked close to the edge of the sidewalk, trying to go around the odd guy as much as she could. She shuddered “What a creeper,” she thought to herself.
When she reached the deli where she worked, she entered quietly, seeing that Katherine was talking to Mr. Lindsey. She wanted to avoid talking to her skeezey boss as much as she could.
Unfortunately for Amanda, Katherine called out to her. She was desperate for any way out of the uncomfortable conversation she was in. “Amanda!” She said, making Mr. Lindsey aware that the other girl had arrived. “Did you hear the good news, I’ve been promoted.” Katherine’s tone make it apparent to Amanda that she was dreading what this promotion entailed, but their boss was oblivious to this as always.
"Yeah, I heard. I'd congratulate you, but-"
Katherine flopped down on the bus stop bench, putting her face in her hands, and speaking from between the cracks in her fingers.
"I know, I know. It sucks, and I hate it, but - It pays really good. I mean, Lindsey is disgusting and he keeps hitting on me, but if I can just make it till the end of the year I'll have enough to get out of stupid Winter Park."
Amanda crossed her arms, uncomfortable. She hated the idea of Katherine leaving Winter Park. She was pretty much her only friend, apart from Margo, who she hadn't seen for months until today. She attempted to change the subject.
"Well, I just was talking to Margo. I'm sure she could totally kick Lindsey's ass."
Katherine raised her head from her hands, giving Amanda a wry smile.
"Thats not funny, Manda."
Amanda cocked her eyebrow.
"What'd I say?"
Katherine leaned back against the bench, closing her eyes and putting her hand on her forehead, like she had a headache.
"It's not good Karman, Manda. You know Margo Roth Speigelman's been missing for weeks. They think she's dead."
