Waiting for a Msg

"Who wants to go first?" exclaimed Sam, the tired 19-year-old who had been sitting at his computer all night, the second hand on his watch slowly inching by like a newborn just learning how to walk. He looked at the watch, yawned, looked at the screen, and waited for her to respond. As time ticked by, he wondered about girls who wore eye patches.

The girl he was waiting on was named Marlee. Interestingly, there were an abundance of Marlees in Sam's life. But he had never met this particular Marlee, not in person. He had only seen her on YouTube, Stickam, and occasionally Myspace.

The monitor lit up as the screen saver activated. After watching the box turn into a triangle then into a diamond and finally into a barb for ten minutes, Sam passed out. His head hit the keyboard, mashing the small dash on the keyboard's letter "F" deep into his left cheek. He would later believe that the small dot on his cheek came from a poison dart. Sam had a very long history with poison darts, making the sudden thought that a poison dart had punctured his cheek relatively normal, which in its own way was kind of sad.
