This is a tale of a boy who spent his life waiting. But as he waited, he had many visitors. Some were friends, some were strangers. Soon the waiting and watching yielded to adventure - because once he knew enough, he became central to the story he knew. He lost friends and he found them again. Some were hurt and some were healed. And after all that waiting, the boy met Katherine. Their journey together had just begun.
Katherine wasn't like most girls. In fact, she was probably one of a kind. Katherine had many friends; or rather, she liked the idea of being their friend. She didn't really think of them as her friends. Katherine was very popular, but she was completely different than everyone else. She was looking for someone similar to herself, but never succeeded in finding that someone. To put it shortly: she was also waiting - and watching.
The boy found Katherine very fascinating, and no matter what he was doing she was on his mind at all times. She was like a drug to him. Nothing could keep him from wanting, longing, reaching for her.
The way her hair sat weightlessly atop her shoulders, and the way the smell of lavender danced about the room when she was near, kept him uneasy, breathlessly awaiting her devotion. But there was one tiny problem.
She didn't even notice him.
On one cold, Monday morning in early January, the boy was waiting at his bus stop for, well, his bus. The boy was a bit tired of waiting and let his mind's eye grasp hold of him and the boy fell into a sea of warmth generated by his unlimited imagination.
As his mind's eye conjured up the image, the boy was suspended by a floating sea of clouds. His bird's-eye view showed a large oak tree in an endless, hilly field of grass. The hills continued and continued to the edge of the much larger hill. The oak tree sat by the edge of the beginning of the downward slope. He see's a beautiful girl eating an apple while sitting at the base of the tree.
She was wearing a yellow dress that ended at her knees. She wore a beautiful set of yellow sandals that had wooden soles. Her wavy, silky brunette hair ended at the bottom of her clavicle. She was looking over the entire valley that was shown before her. Her brown eye's sparkled in the sunset. The boy descended from his cloudy viewpoint and began to stride towards her. The tree that she was sitting by began to move, her along with it. No matter how fast the boy ran or how loud he shouted, he couldn't reach the girl. At this point he knew who this was.
This woman was Katherine. She didn't even notice him.
The boy was yanked out of his terrible imagined world by a loud screech of tires. The boy looked over and saw a white van screech to a stop on the other side of the road and down about 4 city blocks. This caught his attention and looked that the van. He saw the side of the van slide open, a bit like a minivan, except noisier and without the type of motherly love that generally accompanies vans with sliding doors.
He saw a man clad in black gloves, pants, hoodie, and ski mask. He reached out and grabbed a young woman by the arms and yanked her into the van, slamming the sliding door shut shortly after. The van screeched off and was out of sight in a matter of seconds.
The boy dashed up and ran towards the van, but soon lost sight of it. He stopped running, and gasped for air. While gasping for air, hands on his knees, he noticed something. He saw a yellow sandal. It was a beautiful yellow sandal, and it had a wooden sole. He gasped with realization, bent over and retrieved the sandal, and began running down the street, in the direction the van went.
It's unknown how long the boy ran. He ran without stopping. He ran until it was dark and he ran until it was light. He was still looking for Katherine.
It was night. The boy wondered where Katherine was. The boy was worried for her. He leaned against the wall and sighed. He had not gone home for days. He would not give up until he found Katherine. As he gazed into the darkness of the night, he was suddenly suspended by a floating sea of clouds again. This time, the boy did not see an oak tree. Instead, he saw a rectangle. On closer look, it was a car plate and the number was clear. It was in the middle of the road and somehow the surroundings seemed familar. The boy stared at the plate before snapping back to reality. He stood up and walked out of the alley and found himself on a big road. The boy walked backwards along it until he came to a tree. It looked like something had crashed into it. Then, something caught his eye. A car plate.
